In German, it's pronounced, "Sieg Heil! Sieg Heil! Seig Heil!"-

the whole Nazi phenomenon was less about a particular political ideology and more about a cult of personality. it was hallmarked by an unwavering devotion to Hitler -- he was, after all, a "rock star", and an intolerance for and the labeling of those who did not share in the hero worship of Hitler as non-German, and misguided and downright ignorant. Those who didn't agree were not at all free to voice their disapproval -- in the beginning, they were shouted down, by the end.. well we all know what happened to dissenters by the end.

I am not saying that this will happen here, but like spinward, I've had more than one person tell me that I am a bigot because I won't vote for Obama. When I point out that, because of what he says he stands for, I wouldn't vote for him even if he were my own kid, I am told that I am rationalizing my refusal to vote for him -- although I've been quite conservative since the late seventies or early eighties!-

As I stated below, Bush and the both the Democratic and Republican Congresses that served during his adminstration HAVE brought us closer to facism on several levels -- the Patriot Act and FISA come to mind, but you and everyone else is still free to make their Hitler comparisons with no fear of political or criminal reprisal. Also, Bush NEVER enjoyed the hero worship and rock star cult following of Hitler.
Reply
Obama certainly does NOT espouse the same politics as Hitler. That is not the comparison being made. The comparison is to the apparently blind devotion and (to one who is not so affected) the over-the-top and unreasoning fawning that is piled onto Obama.
Just as I look at the tapes of Hitler, Evita, and others who inspired such devotion and say, "huh?". That is my gut reaction to the reaction of others to Obama.
And yes, I find it pretty scary.-

No, he never did enjoy the cult following. But they've been very good at using nazi-like tactics to scare the public into supporting the patriot act, FISA,etc, etc. Does that make him Hitler, no.

And yes, there are some "Hero worshipers" out there for Obama. That in no way compares him to Hitler, and I stand by my statement earlier, the comparisons to Hitler are a stretch.-

After the nationalism we recently went through (which even Bush looks back on with apparent regret) we are concerned about Obama? He has barely half of the voters on his side and is struggling of late. A man like Cheney with no such "cult of personality) has done more damage to this nation than Obama could ever accomplish. Obama will almost surely not win this election. He will be but another footnote in history. Someone who tried to change the system only to have the very citizens who are endentured under that system reject his idealism. America will continue to stuggle. Bloated with debt, aging infrastructure, and failed energy policies. We produce less and import more every year. We now bolster a flawed government in a foreign country that is reaping huge rewards while our own economy falters. These conditions will continue.
We will have another Republican President and a Dem controlled Congress. The real question this fall is who is going to have the veto power? The ignorance of so many on the Right to suggest this Congress has failed when they have no veto override capability. The Oval Office is where that power resides and without a 2/3 majority where it will stay.-

We all know that 4 more years of anti-Democracy rule will screw America into the ground permanently.
So Obama says he is going to be different, and it WILL take some time for the big corporations to buy, blackmail or otherwise control him against the interests of the American people like our last "President" did so willfully and profitably.
So, yeah, its an important vote and Democracy's future is riding on it and people are a little determined not to let it happen again (for instance do you remember who destabilized the middle east and caused gas prices to soar?
REPUBLICAN GEORGE W. BUSH for his war that made his cronies wealthier than you can ever imagine..
We don't want more of that.

And that's the whole problem with what this presidential campaign has degenerated into. We've apparently got a whole chunk of the population that is going to vote for this man because they're staying up nights wondering if America will ever elect a black man for president, rather than because they are truly convinced he's the best guy running.
I truly believe that America would willing and enthusiastically elect the correct black man. Had Colin Powell run in 2000, he probably would have won in a landslide, we would probably be a whole helluva lot better off than we are now, and his legacy wouldn't have been tarnished by this administration's peccadillos.
Had Obama waited until 2012 or 2016 to run, his campaign would have ended up much more issue based than the race-based thing we've got going on because he would have had a record to stand on.
His impatience (forming the "exploratory comittee six months into office -- really?) and hubris has left him in a position where he's making errors because of his arrogance and inexperience (the renaming of his plane, the faux seal on his podium,) and his cultivation of rock-star-god status and popularity has made much of the mainstream uncomfortable. And you can believe it or not, but I firmly believe that if he had been a white guy acting like this, he would have been laughed off the stage long ago.
I will not repeat the STFU. You have as much right to your opinion as I have to mine.-

Obama's numbers claim that he has the support of over 90% of the African American population. Now, most of the blacks I know are NOT monolithic in their beliefs or opinions, yet they almost all support Obama for President? Clinton, who was previously dubbed the "first black President" by Maya Angelou never enjoyed anything approaching that type of popularity. Hell, I bet Lincoln didn't even have that much black support.
Reply
But, I'll give you the fact that given that blacks are a minority about 20-25% of the population and probably about 5-10% of the white and hispanic population won't vote for him because he's black (of course a much larger percentage won't vote for him because he's a democrat), yeah, it might be a wash.
But this pulling minority people pretty much out of thin air to stick in major elections and moan about how bigoted everyone is who won't vote for them is an old democratic tactic. Look at Geraldine Ferraro. Why didn't Mondale pick anyone of the vastly more qualified women available at the time? Jane Feinstein? Bella Abzug? Shirly Chisholm?
(Bella and Shirley were even from the same state!)
I'm sure this will get me many negs, but I think the main reason that many of the minority "firsts" have been Republicans is that Democrats tend to attempt to install people into positions BECAUSE they are minorities and Republicans tend to install people into positions IN SPITE of their being minorites.-

Some Black politicians are voicing concern about electing a Black president and losing their ability to use "white guilt".
Artur Davis, A Black House member from Alabama:
“If Obama is president, it will no longer be tenable to go to the white community and say you’ve been victimized....[A]nd I understand the poverty and the condition of black America and the 39 percent unemployment rate in some communities. I understand that. But if you go out to the country and say you’ve been victimized by the white community, while Barack Obama and Michelle and their kids are living in the White House, you will be shut off from having any influence.”

When was that?
In regards to Affirmative Action, there are no AA programs for whites because white (males) already have a leg up. FYI, AA has benefited women FAR more that it has benefited any particular race.
If you are getting $2 less solely because you are a woman, then yes, you ARE being discriminated against. Women's wages STILL lag behind those of equally talented men, yet somehow people now believe minorities have a 'level playing field'? How does that follow? There are problems for every race and gender except one: white males.-

bruises are bruises, whether they were acquired during an arrest or not
-----
really, if you woulda said it lessens your chances of being beaten if you co-operate, intsead of your 'NOBODY' statement, I wouldn't have taken issue
here's a good tip for anyone dealing with police: keep spontaneous talk to a minimum, just answer questions, keep your hands in plain sight, no attitude, turn on your cars inside light in a traffic stop at night and NEVER leave your vehicle unless instructed [doing so got my friend roughed up and slammed on his car, the dummy got out his car and walked up to the cops. They dint like it much]
in short, don't do anything that may be interpreted as threatening or smart ass, and you should be OK
obeying the law also helps
---
once I was walking at dawn and I fit a description to a recently[as in the last hour] committed crime and a cruiser rolled up on me and a cop jumped out the passenger side before the car even stopped and I was being frisked and man-handled before any words were exchanged and I knew what the hell was happening. They weren't happy with me, but no beating.
as keyed up as they were and with me meeting a description, if I was an idiot and reacting like a normal person woulda said 'WTF!' or did anything but stand there with my hands up, I don't doubt I'da been eating pavement at the least

so here I am, bleeding pretty badly in the passenger seat [I actually put down thick newspapers on the seat and floor boards to soak up the blood]

so what do I do?
sit there and bleed to death, or get out and say something [like 'excuse me officers, but I'm bleeding to death']
If I inform the police of my situation, I'm in for an even longer and funner night than being stitched up in an ER triage, so I just sat there in the dark bleeding patiently. [Duct taping the wound with a towel din't work so well]
They informed my driver his car was the same make as the one that fled the bar and finally let him go, never asking me to get out of the car, and I went and got my stitches and some plasma, [17 stitches [small cut but it hit some big veins.]
ironic, stopped for a bloody bar brawl while bleeding from an unrelated wound -

If I'm a black man and I'm driving home from work and a policeman turns his light on behind me, I promptly and carefully pull to the side of the road. I prepare my driver's license and registration as well as my insurance card, roll down my window and wait for his instructions.

Oh please, spin, do you REALLY believe that??? I have personally seen cops playing with their taser laughing and watching the guy jerk around repeatedly. That;'s not necessarily a racial thing, though. The cops are, for the most part, on such a power trip, that anyone they perceive as weaker is fair game. When there is a problem, there is an investigation that is carried out by...(wait for it)...the police!! They are always justified. What a surprise.
In a sleepy suburban town in CT a couple of months ago, two guys -- one white, one hispanic were just hanging out at the white guy's house. All of a sudden, percussion granades come through the windows, police dogs are let into the house and the hundred ten pound hispanic guy is shot several times for "charging the police". When all the dust settled, and after searching the house for two days they found no weapons, personal use quantities of drugs and paraphenalia. They claimed that a hooker (arrested on other charges) told them that these guys had lots of drugs and guns. They got a warrant on that evidence; I can't imagine what judge would have have given them a no-knock warrant (and that certainly was never specified in the paper, so I suspect that they didn't have one). So far, no charges have been filed against the cop.
I hope that little hispanic guy's family gets a really good lawyer.

Here is something more meaningful for you cons to contemplate. Let's study WWII America... Picture it: A draft, shared sacrifice, rationing of food, fuel, and clothing. No tax cuts for the extremely wealthy, no carefree sitting at home begging other people to sacrifice on our behalf while we went selfishly on our merry way, no endless shrill bitching about the high cost of gas (while others came home in body bags or not at all), no silly cowardly accusations from the sidelines that people who didn't support the troops were unpatriotic (because nearly all households were affected and risked losing a loved one). Flash forward to 2008 and *wow* have the times changed or what? Chickenhawkery, greed, self-absorb attitudes and the worst of human nature abounds. ;-(

How are you 'attacked daily'? Do you mean being presented with counter arguments when you come on this board? Guess what? That's voluntary on your part, and what does it have to do with you being a white male?
Reply
I'm a white male and I get rebuttals to things I post. I don't whine I'm being attacked because I'm not a 'follower' of McCain. -

You missed the point of the article completely.
Reply
Did you read the whol thing, or just the title?
I believe the main point of the article is:
DON'T VOTE FOR PEOPLE YOU DON'T KNOW.
That is what the Germans did then and that is what we are doing now!
PLEASE, let me believe that we won't get the same type of guy that Germany got! I hope Obama is not getting a messiah complex and I hope his followers are voting for him because they understand where he is on the issues... but I don't think so as he has yet to tell us.
On here, people say, "Think, then post."
My simple suggestion is, "Think, then vote."
Am I wrong?-

The sole point of the article is to make an absurdly ludicrous assertion that a particular American serving his country is similar to Hitler because of his popularity.

Nothing less.

Actually, none of that is necessary if you are comparing Obama to Hitler before 1938 or so. From the time he was first elected Chancellor in 1933 to about 1938 when he convinced the German gov't and people that the treaty of Versailles was actually what was responsible for Germany's triple digit inflation rate and the Great Depression.
Reply
Once he got the gov't to back him in ditching the treaty, he started rebuilding Germany''s military -- modestly, at first. Until he invaded the Sudatenland, Hitler was one of the best things that ever happened to Germany. He repaired the infrastructure, brought the Volkswagen to market, and most importantly, instilled a national pride in Germans -- who had been suffering from a devastating malaise in the wake of their loss of WWI and the humiliating terms of the Treaty of Versailles.
Once he invaded the Sudatenland and Austria and Chamberlain and the rest of the world turned their head, that was when he started developing his master race and final solution. Before then, he seemed quite wonderful to the majority of the Germans.
However, had the Germans looked into his background -- Mein Kampf and his associates (and we are sternly instructed that we must not judge Obama based upon his associates), they would have had a glimpse of what was to come (maybe -- but who would have believed it?
That's the Hitler analogy I am seeing. I cannot believe that Obama is getting ready to fire up the ovens or start WWWIII. I don't want to believe that we,, the people, would let him if he did. But then, I don't believe Hitler REALLY intended to start WWWiI -- I think he believed the world would just roll over for him._-

Could you please describe the nature of these "attacks" against you?
Are you beaten with truncheons like Hitler's Brownshirts used to do to people at Democratic meetings?
Was your family raped and shot in front of you like Hitler's Blackshirts used to do to citizens?
Are our children taken and cut open alive without anethetic and have sulfuric acid poured into the wounds to see how long the could survive screaming like Hitler's Dr. Mengele did?
Were your family members who spoke against Obama arrested without trial and have their heads cut off with small industrial guillotines like Hitler's Gestapo used to do to dissidents?
You put in a camp where your family was gassed to death like in Hitler's death camps?
Please tell us all how you have been attacked in a "Hitleresque" way.
Please tell us.-

You may not know it, but I have a pretty big footprint online.

If I could forward my emails to you for a day, you would see the number of threats and insults I get.
I'm a very nice person and would never harm a soul.
I have served my country with pride and want what's best for everyone, fair? Now, only sinse Obama is running for president:
"...all you ***** Christians should burn in hell" - that was fascinating AND compassionate - a real keeper.
"You Jews should realize tha Obama is coming, like it or not." - Nazi? Who knows, but not being a "Jew", I guess it's ok, right?
"...wait until we cut your radio staions off..." - that was referring to the bill Pelosi supports that would force radio stations to alter programming due to government mandate.
I've got about 800 of these. Need them all or do you see what I'm talking about?-

I have over 2000 quotes going back through Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Newt Gingrich, L. Brent Bozell, Michael Savage, Sean Hannity etc. that are VERY INSULTING and exaggerations, innuendo, and outright lies. And I have a pal who has been compiling 3 times that many going back to 1980 (including Bush's many hate-lies)

Sorry, but the ultra-conservative Right with its open gay-bashing, liberal-bashing, race bashing (go back to the earlly '90's and see what the churches of the people called "neocons" say about race!), woman's rights bashing, war-questioner bashing, global awareness bashing, alternative energy bashing, education bashing... anyway the extreme RIGHT WINS a dozen times over when it comes to insults.
I think you need to keep that in mind when you join up with the Obama bashing.
It makes you look like a bully like the Republicans in the Justice Department or something...

You are attacked daily because you say the most obnoxious, ridiculous anti-american things daily.
Reply
For example: Obama panders (insinuating that the flip-flopper extraordinaire McCain does not) therefore he his Hitler.
Oh, and I thought you neocons said Hitler comparisons are anti-American. You flip-flop almost as much as the little Mussolini you idolize.
You attacked Obama for promoting conservation (like tune-ups and proper tire inflation which will save more oil than any drilling McCain can entitle to his cronies, and then when told what a bunch of morons all you McCainiacs look like for attacking common sense and house-hold facts, instead of apologizing you attack Obama for telling you `what you already know`.
> What does the future hold for me?

Spin, one thing that I notice you seem to forget. The German Nazis were highly nationalistic and equated patriotism with supporting their German cause. Who does that resemble -- certainly not Obama and his supporters.
Reply
The Nazis also depended on a racially identifiable scapegoat. Is anyone doing that?
They also took power in the aftermath of their country's defeat, humiliation and poverty. Again, nothing like that happening here in the U.S.
You seem to be ignorant of history.-
