"Authorities ordered residents of 3,200 Paradise homes to evacuate after the wind-stoked fire destroyed 40 homes and 10 structures Tuesday in the nearby rural community of Concow. Evacuation orders remained in effect for 1,000 residents of Concow and Yankee Hill, about 85 miles north of Sacramento."
"Officials said more than 3,800 homes were threatened by the flames Wednesday. Another wildfire destroyed 74 homes in Paradise last month."

Ridiculous nature! Someones got to do something about these "natural" occurrences.
Sometimes the evacuation orders can lead to more homes getting destroyed, but people aren't there to fend off the flames with water, etc. Of course, its a public safety matter and I guess you have to do something to stop people from potentially dying.
Oh well, catch 22 I guess.

This is devastating to the people of Paradise. Their median income is $31,000, which is low for california, & if they lose everything replacing it will be so hard for them.

I live roughly 8 miles from Paradise Ca. The income is low because Paradise is mainly a retirement community. "The Ridge" (as the locals call it). Many elderly had to evacuate just so they could breathe. The air here in Chico, (down the hill) is so thick with smoke many are wearing the standard white particle masks to filter-out the soot. Others with respiratory problems (Asthma, COPD) don't go out at. The sun is a dirty brownish-orange color and we haven't seen blue skies in almost three weeks. Evacuation centers have been set-up at California State Universiy-Chico and the various Municipal centers close by. The local folks are very depressed and the army of firefighters that have assembled from all across the state are dog tired from fighting the various fires that never seem to be under control.
