What if your family was planning a big end-of-summer bash (a Grand Old Party, you might call it) but preferred that you not be seen - or heard? That is the question hanging over President Bush, with eight weeks to go until Republicans gather in Minneapolis-St. Paul to nominate Arizona Sen. John McCain as his successor.

I hadn't thought of that. They do have 'small' problem there, lol.

Bush and Larry Craig should draw straws for the job of bathroom attendant.

      Possible futures:

      1) best scenario:

The presidential limo pull up to the convention center. Bush rushes inside to an empty hall... deflated balloons and bits of confetti litter the dirty floor. The RNC changed the date but oops forgot to tell the prez.

      2) acceptable scenario:

A figure wearing a paper-bag over its head waves briefly from a balcony; a vague cheer passes like a weak wind over the crowd, then fades. The figure is guided away.

      3) worst-case scenario:

The president appears in flak suit onstage next to a snarling McCain, giving thumbs up and victory signs, while everyone in the background holds purses or balloons or their hands between their faces and the cameras. McCain turns and grabs bush by the throat and the cameras cut to a 'family life forum' video.

The best scenario. Put his family on stage, give him the microphone and everyone leave the auditorium. Laura will give her cynical smile, Jenna will do her striptease, Barbara will get drunk and the son-in-law will be the clown.

I bet the only people left there will be Cheney, Rice, Gates, "PIG" Lieberman.

That was concise, to the point. That was excellent.

I think the Republicans will play up to Bush. He'll be in the wings while everyone tries to pretend no one farted.

Two Presidents of the United States, Bush and Clinton, not quite welcome with open arms at their respective party's conventions? What's that say about politics in the US? What's that say about the Presidents that we Americans elect? Pretty sad state of affairs, if you ask me.
