News – Four suicide bombers hit a Kurdish Yazidi community in northwest Iraq on Tuesday, killing at least 175 people and wounding 200 others, the Iraqi military said. The bombs tore through communities near Qahataniya, 75 miles west of Mosul, Iraq's third-largest city.

More great news from Iraq. Will this senseless killing never end?
Just a start of what will come when the Iraqis are allowed to sort out their own affairs.
At this point that seems inevitable. All we seem to be doing right now is sacrificing our soldiers to forestall the inevitable. Not to mention putting ourselves so far in debt that we may never dig our way out.
Not inevitable - The United States of Exxon will prevail
This is the problem we have with the press and politicians running a war instead of your generals who are trained to win wars.
When you get into a fight you need to choose a side, not try to stay in the middle. The latter makes them both attack you. I firmly believe we should have armed the Kurds to the max, then walked away, problem solved. Dead terrorists everywhere and nobody having to pay to feed any of them!
More love from our friends at The Religion of Peace.
idiot
They haven't learned yet that Christians rule the world
not so peacefully.
HEY DON'T YOU REMEMBER!!!! WE ARE THE BAD GUYS...NOT THEM...DUH!!!
AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT ALL THE E-LIBS ARE SAYING ON THERE E-LIB BUDDY WEBSITES!!! SO IT MUST BE TRUE!!!
Yeah...don't listen to those damn Libs......
There's still trillions of dollars to be made on this lovely little war in Iraq.
Stay the course!!!!!!!
Surely the the Republican Party can find a candidate to keep this corporate gravy train running for 8 more years!
Ahh, the Turks would have loved that! One big war, from the Bosporus to the Hindkush.
We've chosen a side. We've just bought the Sunnis, again.
So it couldn't be them. Could it?
PS. Sorry Obaku. This was meant for LordyLordy.
Don't know how this wound up here.
Thank george w bush and the gop.
Back up the train. It started long before now.
You ought to really thank Jimmy Carter and his band of buffoons. Peanut farmer Jimmy, cousin Cooter, and Billy Bob sent the message that America was weak, livy livered, and will run when the fight starts...just call our press and they'll be on your side terrorist.
The sad part is I liked Jimmy as a man, but as a leader he was a failure.
'' sent the message that America was weak, livy livered, and will run when the fight starts.''
why is it so hard to see the difficulty in intimidating suicide bombers just by showing we are not 'weak and lily-livered'?
why is it so hard to grasp the basic contradiction in intimidating people that kill themselves willingly?
PS we invaded Iraq and Afghanistan and bombed them pretty goo, so what exactly do we need to do to show them we aren't 'weak and lily-livered'
maybe they really don't care what we do or what we think of them. or ourselves as a nation. maybe they do what they do regardless of our response.
Did they stop attacking embassies etc when we failed to retaliate? Isn't AQ supposed to be active in Iraq even after showing how 'tough' the US is on terrorism?
Lordy,
Just to get the record straight, the only bad decision Jimmy Carter made was to listen to Henry the "Horrible" Kissinger and allow CIA to whisk the Shah of Iran and give him protection. Iranians had wanted to arrest and try the Shah for all the tortures and murders he committed of innocent Iranians. That one blunder caused the taking of hostages in our embassy in Tehran, held until the last minute of Carter's Presidency.
Henry was the right hand man of the Rockefellers, and he wanted to protect Shah who has been doing favors to them.
So, let us keep our facts straight, and put the blame where it belongs!
Bingo.
yessirree, old Henry just twisted their arms and forced them to take those hostages. Why, everybody knows that the Ayatollah Khomeini was a civil, tolerant and peaceful religious guy with no animosity toward anybody until Kissinger forced him to take those hostages and hold them for 444 days.
It's all coming back to me clearly, now.
You missed the part about Henry securing exile for the Shah.
It must be the part that doesn't make your story work.
That's why you threw it away.
The truth often gets in the way like that.
Uh no, it is what is happening now, with the U.S. interfering.
What makes you think you can predict what will happen if...?
So, if we leave love will break out? Everyone in Iraq will put the past behind them, hold hands and sing songs? I think this is just a taste of the bloodletting to follow. Having said that, I agree with tchef. We need to get out and they need to kill each other for very stupid reasons.
We give them John Lennon records and candles and teach them to sing, "Let's give peace a chance...."
Of course we could put them all in a big round room, send them cases and cases of Texas chili, then tell them all the restroom is in the corner and oh, by the way, you're out of toilet paper!
>>>We give them John Lennon records and candles and teach them to sing, "Let's give peace a chance....">>>
Sounds good, but "I guess that I'm a dreamer."
There are many things that might happen.
A lot of them, probably most, aren't very pretty.
Of course, the present isn't very pretty in Iraq.
Obaku, I hope everyone in the world has an epiphany today. I hope we all wake up and decide to live in peace and stop the killing. Sadly, we are all greedy bastards and find reasons to keep killing. The usual suspect is religion. I hope you are right about a better outcome in Iraq once we leave. I'm more pessimistic.
This is all the peace that we're responsible for, right? I dunno about you guys, but I don't want our troops sent to this.
"More great news from Iraq. Will this senseless killing never end?"
Yeah, when dems buck up and give our sodliers the support and tools necessary to help eradicate Al Qaeda in Iraq.
Thoughtless comment. Al Quaeda are in Iraq BECAUSE American troops are there! And the centuries old rivalry between Sunni and Shia would bubble on regardless of Al Qaeda's presence.
If you finally manage to stop laughing at "libs", try and work out why Shi'ite Muslims are not involved in Al Quaeda, and why Al Quaeda had no presence in Iraq before the American invasion.
libs, you're a little cynical here. You've got to buck up. According to President Bush, we have enough troops, and they have enough equpment, to get the job done. Bush listens to what his generals tell him and he gives them everything they need for victory. So what, if it's already taken longer than WWII. Them Al Qaida guys are a lot more resilent than the Japanese or Germans were.
idiot, what do they NOT have that the PRESIDENT AND RUMMY DIDN'T give them.
I believe THAT was due to the Republicans NOT "the DEMS"
Did anyone see the video of Cheney saying that if we invaded Baghdad the first time, it would have been a Quagmire. Something very wrong with this picture. Any thoughts on this?
Cheney's a flip flopper.
The first time he said it (1994) he didnt have the financial stake that he had in 2003 (Halliburton 1995), oh, and he was running for president at the time as well.
Flip floppin for dough!

"Yeah, when dems buck up and give our sodliers the support and tools necessary to help eradicate Al Qaeda in Iraq."
What a laughable assertion, considering that for 12 years the Republican-controlled Congress
1) underfunded veterans hospitals like Walter Reed
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/...
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/ar...
"Schumer called for the creation of an independent commission to examine conditions at all medical facilities treating military personnel and veterans..'We should not send troops into combat if they don't have equipment and if they don't have the training they need,' Murtha, a Vietnam veteran, said."
2) enacted a troop surge opposed by Generals Abizaid, Casey, and Dempsey, which only lead to more troop casualties
http://icasualties.org/oif/
3) failed to supply adequate body and vehicle armor.
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?st...
"John Soltz: 'We are the troops. We're sitting next to Leader Pelosi because the Republicans don't support the troops...If y'all want to talk about not supporting the troops, go over to the Republican side and ask them why they voted against body armor in the Senate, not once, but twice in 2003. That's not supporting the troops."
http://mikulski.senate.gov/record.cfm?id=269346
"Senator Mikulski (D-MD) said, 'It is completely unacceptable that, after nearly four years in Iraq, we still have not provided our troops with the equipment they need to protect themselves on the battlefield. I will continue to fight to make sure they have the body armor they need to stay safe in Iraq.'"
4) underfunded the Montgomery GI Bill
http://www.sunmt.org/militaryed.html
"The advertisements blare: Join the military and receive $70,000 for college...In fact, 57% of the veterans who signed up for the Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) have never seen a penny in college assistance, and the average net payout to veterans has been only $2151. Primarily, the low average net is the result of the many military personnel who the Department of Defense (DoD) declares ineligible, and of the challenges faced by veterans trying to access the promised money even if they are eligible."
5) extended tour duties
http://www.military.com/NewsContent/0,13319,FL_...
"The Pentagon issued its latest stop-loss order in June, forcing thousands of men and women to stay in the military and requiring many to return to combat duty well beyond their agreed-upon period of active service. Thousands of members of the all-volunteer armed forces no longer are serving voluntarily."
6) Remember this?
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/iraq/co...
http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/12/08/rumsf...
"'Why do we soldiers have to dig through local landfills for pieces of scrap metal and compromised ballistic glass to uparmor our vehicles?' asked Thomas Wilson, Army Spc. of the 278th Regimental Combat Team. The question prompted cheers from some of the approximately 2,300 troops assembled in the large hangar.
About the shortage of armor-protected vehicles in Iraq, Rumsfeld told the troops: 'As you know, you go to war with the army you have. They're not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time. You can have all the armor in the world on a tank, and it can [still] be blown up.'
'I understand how you may be forced into a situation earlier than you'd like where you might not have everything you want, but it's now going into the third year,' Dodd (D-CT) said.
ybdogsct: PLEASE stop confusing Neocons with facts.
Big deal, 198 people have been murdered in Baltimore this year. How many have been murdered in all the US cities? That is a number they don't want you to know. But we make Iraq look tame. So senseless killing is everywhere. Pray for peace!
PROTOHAM:
"Big deal, 198 people have been murdered in Baltimore this year."
How can you equate Baltimore's homicide count for the ENTIRE YEAR to the fatality count from one DAY of violence in Iraq and claim that they're comparable?
Show me a region in the U.S. with comparable population size (Iraq population = 28 million est.) with an annual homicide rate of 14,220 fatalities (52174 fatalities/3.67 year = 14220 fatalities per year).
And don't forget to cite your sources.

And that many died in Iraq, TODAY.
Iraq will be another Vietnam for US troops. Poor guys still fighting for The First Cowboy
