  George Carlin on the subject_

  I want you to know, when it comes to believing in god- I really tried. I really really tried. I tried to believe that there is a god who created each one of us in his own image and likeness, loves us very much and keeps a close eye on things. I really tried to believe that, but I gotta tell you, the longer you live, the more you look around, the more you realize...something is ******-UP. Something is WRONG here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is NOT good work. If this is the best god can do, I am NOT impressed. Results like these do not belong on the resume of a supreme being. This is the kind of ****** you'd expect from an office temp with a bad attitude. And just between you and me, in any decently run universe, this guy would have been out on his all-powerful-azz a long time ago.

  I'm not sure I understand why there is so much god-bashing from the atheist community on this board. I can understand why Carlin did that bit, he's a comedian and doing those things earned him a great deal of money and fame. Don't get me wrong, I have respect for the Atheist position; I used to be an atheist. But nowadays I'm not even sure what an atheist is. Just being on this board for a little while makes me realize that there are some atheists who can be very religious. They form there own little club, and claim that anyone that believes differently from them is obviously stupid, or backward, or uneducated. They also claim to KNOW a great many things, and show an almost fanatical devotion to science. This group seems bent on spreading (evangelizing) their gospel. This seems very odd to me coming from an atheist. Here is a quote from Bertrand Russell, a brilliant philosopher and an atheist: "Unless you assume a god, the question of life's purpose is meaningless."

      You obviously cannot discern reasoning at its most basic level. This is shown by the fact that you think my point was to show: "that life HAS a God-given purpose." I am well aware of Russell's view. I did my thesis in part on Russell's view of God. I said in the post right before the quote that he was brilliant, and an atheist. The point is that Russell was not in the business of evangelizing his views like so many atheists on this board are. The reason he did not evangelize his views was because he felt that to do so would be to assume life has a meaning, which of course assumes a god. The fact that you 'jumped on' my post, and assumed that it held a radical Christian perspective shows that you are indeed in the business of evangelizing your own dogma. The very sort of position I find difficult to understand. I prefer Russell's position.

  Well to answer the prechers question , it runs down like this , Respect , or rather the lack of it .to make them selves look good they have to be like natzies and find a wipping boy , like God , or Bush to blame every thing on. Wars who starts them ? God ? Jesus ? poverity whos fault Gods or the Goverment ? now be honest ... at least to your self if not to the rest of us , how much of what you have right now did you earn? Disasters whos falt ? the weather the land the plates in the earth shifting , a Volcano , Hurrican tornado , can we of caused any of these or God or is this the nature of our planet? Health whos fault , Smoking like a Pittsburgh Steel mill Drinking like a fish , eating Greasy Foods have a diet of fast food , are you doing every illeagle Drug known to man . ya its Gods Fault .... or Bushes take youe pick .hey , heres a thought , look in the mirror , see that person? he's responcible .

  I guess what realy Gets me going is i just try n get through each day as best i can , i try not to hurt any one ....thats not trying to hurt me , i'm a live n let live person, don't realy care about people religon or Color . treat people as they treat me . I never blame people or God for my desions . if i want to drive at 220 in the Superbird i do and ..if the police were able to catch me i wouldn't be up set because i made the desion same with religon . with in reason of my belife and understanding i try n follow a few rules . some are religon based some are man laws and some are my ideas . been alive 54 years never been aressted don't drink don't smoke don't do drugs . that doesn't make me better then some one that does these are the things I don't do because I don't want to not because Church or Goverment say not to .
