Could a publisher buy a Hugo award?

Books – Maybe, if the cost of a non-attending WorldCon membership gets capped at around $40 a head. It could only cost a few thousand, or maybe $10,000, to buy enough memberships to "win" an award, worry some in the fan community. But the larger problem is that the Hugos are usually only voted on by a few hundred people.

CCTV Cameras don't make us safer

News – Overall, CCTV cameras aren't very effective. What Are the New SciFi Classics?

Movies – John Scalzi says, "One interesting thing about the list, however, is that it stops 17 years ago; the latest film to be included on the list is Terminator 2: Judgment Day, which hit screens in 1991." So he made his own list of new classics, released after 1991.
