Books – The Guyanese poet Cyril Dabydeen's novel, Drums of My Flesh, has been shortlisted for the very prestigious prize, the Impac Dublin Literary Prize. The winner gets 100,000 in Irish Pounds. The critics are saying this novel enriches the Guyanese canon. The novel is mainly about a Guyanese father worrying about bringing up his daughter in Canada.

Books – Recognised everywhere in the Caribbean as the day the Abolition Act was passed in England freeing the slaves, August 01, 1834 comes back to life in this book by Hugh "Tommy" Payne. Slave labour was about to become a thing of the past but in British Guiana, as elsewhere, it didn't happen quite so fast.

Travel – JetBlue will cancel another quarter of its flights tomorrow in hopes that it can recover from hundreds of canceled flights since Wednesday's snow and ice storm.
