Ford has apparently taken the MINI lesson and is focusing on making the new cars more attractive and better equipped. By keeping costs under control and using the kinetic design language from the Iosis concept and new Mondeo they hope that the new small car can contribute to their revival.

I know, I know. But I'm not kidding that you have to see this video to believe it: a robotic George Bush on skates rollerblades to pull a metal chariot. Oh, and Bush is dressed like Caesar. Invented by Bob Schneeveis, a Stanford prof, the thing runs on solar-powered batteries and a 24-volt motor in the robot's chest (insert Dick Cheney joke here).

Tesla officially declares Albuquerque to be WhiteStar, USA

As hinted at, Tesla Motors and the state of New Mexico announced today that Albuquerque will be home to Tesla's first manufacturing plant in the US. Tesla's new all-electric sedan, codename WhiteStar, will be made in the Land of Enchantment. Construction on the plant will begin in April. No word on when the cars will be ready, but Tesla moves fast.

Left Coast Electric turns 1978 Triumph into an electric car

During the Santa Monica Alt Car Expo last December, Gadget and his crew from Left Coast Electric ripped out the guts of a Triumph and tried to convert the car in two days. A little hassle from the Fire Marshall and a few technical hiccups meant that the conversion wasn't complete by the time the Expo closed on Sunday, but and proved it is possible.

This is a perfect example of a company trying to create sweet PR while not changing the reality of its product. The new Highlander hybrid does have a electric-only button, which is a great headline. But, because the batteries are the same as previous models, the all-electric range is, um, not exactly headline-worthy (hint: it's less than 1.1 miles)
