Politics – Former Vice President Al Gore has made it clear that he thinks he'll be able to do more to fight global warming as a private citizen than he ever could as a politician. Even if Obama wins the Presidency, Gore feels that his contributions to saving the environment as a politician will be thwarted compared to if he was acting as a private citizen...

News – In an audio recording of Mr. Maliki's interview that Der Spiegel provided to The New York Times, Mr. Maliki stated a clear affinity for Mr. Obama's position, bringing it up on his own in an answer to a general question on troop presence.

Politics – McCain has been forced by events to switch to Barack Obama's position on 2 fundamental issues: more troops in Afghanistan, and more diplomacy with Iran. The next shift appears to be Iraq. For months, McCain has called any plan to redeploy our troops from Iraq "surrender." Now, the Bush Administration is embracing troop withdrawals - a pos

Music – "I Want to Know What Love Is" is a power ballad recorded by the British-American rock band Foreigner. The song hit #1 in both the UK and the U.S. and is their most successful single. It remains one of the band's best known songs. Foreigner's other top seller, Waiting For A Girl Like You spent 10 weeks in the number two spot, so it is ofte

Politics – An embarrassing slip up, when an aide mistakenly sent to the news media a Reuters article saying Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki backs Barack Obama's troop withdrawal plan. Its timing is particularly embarrassing as Bush's "general time horizon" for withdrawing U.S. troops is being cited by some as resembling Obama's redeployment pro

Popular Videos – McCain aired the first real negative ad of the 2008 general-election. McCain accuses Obama of 3 offenses: he "never held Senate a hearing on Afghanistan"; he "hasn't been to Iraq in years"; and he "vot[ed] against troop funding." While the complaints sound damning when simplified, they crumble upon closer examination.

Books – With provincial elections in Iraq slated to occur later this year and Iraqi President Nouri al-Maliki's government clamping down on Sadrist forces in Baghdad and in the Shiite south, Cockburn's Muqtada serves as a necessary guidebook for interpreting the turbulent course that Iraqi politics has taken over the past several years-and where it is like

Do No Evil – Last week, the gloves finally came off the Dmitry Medvedev presidency in Russia. It had to happen sooner or later, but few would have expected this soon. It was crystal clear US President George W Bush administered a diplomatic snub to Medvedev on the sidelines of the Group of Eight (G-8) summit meeting at Hokkaido, Japan.

Politics – July polls don't tell you who's going to win in November. Just ask President Dukakis or President Gore, both of whom were well ahead in July and went on to lose in the fall (although Mr. Gore still doesn't quite see it that way).
