Music – A little magic and music in a different setting can have a restoring effect on many of us. I was left dreaming of being able to make it to the Gnaoua (Gnawa) Festival in Essaouira in June (26 to 29) after reading Rockin' the Casbah (Steve Dougherty, NY Times). Health & Fitness – We have enough copycats or just plain boring bland stores in the retail sphere to crowd a landfill. Creative ideas sprout everywhere including in South Africa as the Wellness Warehouse proves. They currently have 4 stores including one on Kloof Street in Cape Town and another in Johannesburg.

Food – It might be a little late in the game mentioning New York Restaurant Picks for Mother's Day but I thought we could all benefit from the insight of our friend, The Restaurant Girl. Who gets first mention but Prune who got its name from chef Gabrielle Hamilton's childhood nickname and offers unpretentious home cooking to warm up the soul.

Food – Over the past week, I spoke to a number of chefs (here in the US) and the overwhelming majority dreaded the Mother's Day marathon. They would throw in the same bag of dreaded workdays Valentine's Day and New Year. Maybe the holiday they hate most of all to work on is Thanksgiving...
