sega

An intellectual, scholar, revolutionary, deist and idealist. A radical pamphleteer, I anticipated and helped foment the American Revolution through my powerful writings, most notably Common Sense, an incendiary pamphlet advocating independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. An advocate of liberalism, I outlined his political philosophy in Rights of Man, written both as a reply to Edmund Burke's view of the French Revolution and as a general political philosophy treatise as well as Common Sense, a treatise on the benefits of personal liberty and limited government, in which I consider society a representation of human ideals, and government a necessary evil.

Raw-Sugar Madeleines

Food – I was so excited to use my new madeleine pan that I dove into preparation, without checking to see if I actually had the necessary ingredients. When I realized, horrified, that I was out of sugar, of all things, I turned to an often-overlooked bag of turbinado sugar, lurking in the corner of the shelf...

Lime Sugard Cookies

Food – nspired by the key lime pie at Billy's, but wanting something a little lighter, I went to work on the traditional sugar cookie, modifying Carole Walters's recipe in Great Cookies.

Quintessentially Summer: Lemon Meringue Cake

Food – Few things say summer more than a lemon meringue pie, in my opinion, and I happen to love cake, so this recipe seemed like a perfect hybrid.

Food Obsession: Halloumi Cheese

Food – During a trip to Whole Foods last weekend, I happened upon a package of halloumi cheese. I'd read about it in Nigella Lawson's Feast, had it in a dish at the Greek restaurant Kefi, on the Upper West Side, and had been quite curious about preparing it at home.

Curried Turkey Sandwich!

Food – The first I tried is the Curried Turkey Sandwich. To slightly de-carb, I used a whole-wheat lavash to wrap the contents, rather than the suggested multi-grain baguette. I also substituted currants for raisins, because I had them on hand (and isn't that the beauty of sandwiches?
