Eight food books for summer reading

Travel – Forget Danielle Steele and if you're still on Harry Potter, well, we can't help you. For a refreshing change for your summer reading, how about some food-related books, some that are new, some that are not so new, and some that aren't really "light summer reading," but are great books anyway: Gael Green's Insatable, Tony Bourdain's The Nasty

WTF is a CrispyCone? El Chavo will tell you

Travel – It's like a sandwich. Or a pizza. But it's shaped in a cone. For a while there, it seemed like there was much hype about it, but apparently, they are not crispy, and do not taste good. Oh well.

Juice is just as bad as soda

Travel – If you've cut soda out of your diet, good for you! But don't think that replacing all that soda with juice is any better. Perceptions that juice is good for you and that it's natural are not only incorrect, they're also contributing to today's childhood obesity epidemic.

If you're tired of reading about food, listen to it

Travel – In a world of glossy food magazines, $50 cookbooks and tv hosts who seem to care more about make-up than marinades, a quieter, cheaper and decidedly more old-fashioned way to explore cooking is getting new play. Inexpensive podcasting equipment, the Internet and obsession with eating, food broadcasting is more democratic than ever.

Turn your kitchen into culinary boot camp

Travel – You can't learn to cook simply by watching tv or reading a book. Here are 10 tips from professionals on how to turn your own kitchen into a culinary boot camp: be organized, learn knife skills, keep them sharp, taste everything, master basic techniques, take temps, learn from mistakes, keep the pan hot, warm up, and read the recipe!

Sangria shouldn't have to follow a recipe

Travel – Simply figure a half bottle of good red wine per person, add any type of fruit juice, whatever fruits are in season (and hopefully they're ripe enough that you don't need to add any sugar or syrup), and add a splash of sherry. In the end, it should be based on your taste.

Cooking in a small kitchen? Don't remodel, just de-clutter

Travel – Instead of spending hundreds (maybe thousands) of dollars re-modeling a kitchen that's too small, simply spend some time de-cluttering to free up space.

Spas aren't just about beauty anymore

Health & Fitness – The focus has widened to become "wellness," and instead of offering massages and facials, top spas around the country are integrating beauty treatments with holistic approached to total well being: fitness, health, relaxation and even spirituality.
