Politics – "All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent," Thomas Jefferson told us two centuries ago. That is as true today as it was then. "Only vigilant and active citizens will be able to protect their liberties in the days ahead," notes Barr.

Politics – Where did people get the idea that the U.S. President has the power to "order" private citizens to do anything, let alone to break the law? How did this warped and distinctly un-American mentality get implanted into our public discourse -- that the President can give "orders" to private citizens that must be complied with?

Politics – In his 2000 presidential campaign, Sen. John McCain referred to Asians as "gooks" but the story attracted little media attention. Now that he is running for the presidency again, it might be time to inform the American people of this story.

Politics – What if your family was planning a big end-of-summer bash (a Grand Old Party, you might call it) but preferred that you not be seen - or heard? That is the question hanging over President Bush, with eight weeks to go until Republicans gather in Minneapolis-St. Paul to nominate Arizona Sen. John McCain as his successor.

Politics – His speech confronted dark truths: that there was an immeasurable difference between free whites and blacks in chains; that the blessings his audience enjoyed were not enjoyed by all Americans. "You may rejoice," Douglass lamented. "I must mourn."

Politics – John McCain calls himself an underdog. That may be an understatement. The GOP presidential candidate trails Democrat Barack Obama in polls, organization and money while trying to succeed a deeply unpopular fellow Republican in a year that favors Democrats.
Politics – I cannot honestly say I will miss him. Pictures with Bono do not erase the self-proclaimed anti-gay, anti-black positions he took. RIP (rest in purgatory) Jesse Helms
