I am a former Marine from the Vietnam era and I consider myself to be a moderate Democrat. I believe people should try to help themselves but there are quite a few who can't. That is why I focus on helping the poor and the elderly and I am not afraid to speak against the government when I feel they are not doing what is right.

News – The gap between the state's rich and its poor is getting bigger. The bulk of job growth in California over the last generation took place at the top or bottom of the pay scale, a trend that has accelerated since the beginning of this decade. Jobs in the middle are scarcely growing at all.
