Impeachment as Political Solution to the Iraq War

Politics – Improperly framing Iraq as a war benefits those responsible for it and obscures the clearest path to a saner future. If instead Iraq was framed as the armed assault that it was (billed as "Shock and Awe"), there is a logical, expedient political solution at our disposal - impeachment.

Religious Claims: "A Virgin Had a Baby"

Religion – Many of us non-Believers wish to come up with a quick and clean explanation for why other people publicly proclaim oxymoronic religious ideas. It's as though they believe they have knives at their backs and they darned well say such things, or else. "Or else what?" I often think. Let go of those scary thoughts. It's just a bad dream!

Taxpayers pick up Bush's colonoscopy bill

Politics – Democratic lawmakers in Washington say they're drafting a health care reform bill that would expand coverage for low-income kids. President Bush says he'll veto any such legislation, warning that it would lead the nation "down the path to government-run health care for every American." Like that would be a bad thing.

Generation Chickenhawk: the Unauthorized College Republican Convention Tour

Politics – On July 13, 2007, I visited Section 60 of Arlington National Cemetery, where the bodies of American soldiers killed in Iraq were freshly interred. Afterwards, I headed across the street to the Sheraton National Hotel, owned by right-wing Korean cult leader Sun Myung-Moon, to meet some of the war's most fervent supporters at the College Republican N

"Religion makes you nuts"

Religion – There is no god (or no evidence of one), and you aren't rebutting my claims by telling me how deeply your feelings are hurt. If you walked into a doctor's office and were told that, to improve your health, you need to lose weight and stop smoking and exercise more, would you start shouting that you were insulted? (Yeah, I know, some of you would.)

You are Destroying America. Yes, You.

Do No Evil – Terrorism will never destroy America. It will come from within. From fear-addicts who have raped the U.S. so much that they should be drawn up on charges of treason. The cowards who want a nanny state to coddle them, hug them, and ultimately contain them in a little crib with bars and monitors and cameras.

Lesbian kiss falls flatter than a pancake

Gay & Lesbian – Just one kiss. That's all it took - to get thrown out of the IHOP in Grandview. Two young women sharing a kiss didn't seem inappropriate to the other couple in the restaurant booth that night, Jackie Smith and the woman with whom she shares her life, Toni Smith. But someone watching the scene was offended.
