Do-It-Yourself – You take lots of digital photos and you need a quick way to fix red eye, adjust crooked images, crop, sharpen and zoom. If you don't have the cash or patience to get a copy of Photoshop and learn what to do with it, the free Windows photo manager software, Picasa, may have everything you need to adjust your photos to your liking.

Do-It-Yourself – Busy lives can keep us away from home much of the day. Luckily there are particular joys in the night garden, and good opportunities. Though some important chores like irrigation can be automated, nothing can replace the gardener for deadheading flowers or looking out for pest problems.

Do-It-Yourself – To begin with, I apologize for the lack of videos. I couldn't get my camera to turn on, no matter what I tried. I will be taking it to be looked at this week, so hopefully it will be back in time for next week's lesson. For this week, I took a ton of pictures using my new camera (that doesn't have video, go figure :) ).

Do-It-Yourself – If you've ever photographed an idyllic landscape and ended up with a washed-out sky and dark, underexposed blobs instead of shadows, you'll understand why photographers are falling in love with High Dynamic Range photography. HDR allows you to capture far more color, brightness, and contrast information in photos than has been possible.

Do-It-Yourself – What, you might ask, does an abacus have to do with a craft room? Nothing, really. If any ciphering is going on in there, it's on a calculator. But I digress. The abacus idea came from a basket of antique spools.

Do-It-Yourself – Bird-watching is a hobby I really enjoy, and I've carefully created a backyard haven to attract birds of all kinds. In fact, of all the wildlife that visits my garden, birds are the most welcome.
