Willie Randolph, Barack Obama and the Race Card

Sports – As anyone who has followed the 2008 presidential campaign knows, racism is a fact of life in America. Much of White America will not vote for Barack Obama purely on the basis of his race. We have seen that in West Virginia. We have seen it in Kentucky. We will see it on a grand scale come the general election.

An Open Letter To Hillary Supporters Who Plan on Voting for McCain

Politics – To all of the Hillary Clinton supporters who are devastated by the reality that your candidate is not going to become president- I feel your pain. To all of the Hillary supporters who say they will vote for John McCain rather than Barack Obama- You are insane. I understand that in the heat of battle, there is a tendecy to demonize...

It Ain't Over 'Til It's OvertÃ;¢ââ;;¬Ã;¦ Racism

Politics – Watching Hillary Clinton's performance this week is like rubber-necking a 20-car pile up. It's gruesome to look at, but you just can't take your eyes off of it. If the stakes weren't so damned important, it would almost be fascinating to watch Hillary Clinton committing political suicide in front of our very eyes.

Frankly My Dear, I Don't Give a Guam

Politics – It seems that the good people of Guam had better things to do today than vote in the Democratic Party primary/caucus. Out of approximately 55,000 registered voters, only 4,521 people voted. The winner? Barack Obama beat Hillary Clinton by a grand total of seven votes. Voting is a very touchy issue in Guam.

Barack and Hillary, You're in the Bottom Two

Politics – The great thing about the election season is that we all get to see democracy in action. I'm not talking about the race for the Democratic Party's nomination. There's nothing terribly democratic about that. Not with Superdelegates, disenfranchised states and rogue reverends running around. I'm talking about American Idol.

Elite of Our Own

Politics – I've just gotten used to the idea that liberal is a dirty word. Politicians would rather wear Hester Prynne's "A" blazoned on their chests than the God-awful "L." Now, we have a new dirty word in politics. Elitist. Just ask Barack Obama. The elitist tag proved to be his downfall in Pennsylvania. He was the one with the

This Should Have Been a Slam Dunk

Politics – Basketball was Barack Obama's first love. It's the game that taught him many of life's lessons. Unfortunately, it seems like Obama has forgotten one of the biggest lessons the game has to offer: Don't sit on a lead. Obama ought to know better. How many times have we seen basketball teams go up by a huge margin, only to squander the lead by

Berlin 1936 and Beijing 2008: A Happy Face on the Master Race

Sports – With the 2008 Olympic Games just a few months away, I can't help but find some startling similarities between the events surrounding the 1936 Berlin Olympics and the upcoming Beijing Olympic games.

McCain Too Old? It all Depends

Politics – You've been seeing a lot of ads with spry, old people lately. Whether the ad is for Viagra, Ameriprise Financial, or Cialis, those 70-somethings are out there running marathons, jumping out of planes, running with the bulls in Pamplona and having hours of acrobatic sex. Ok, so I'm exaggerating a littleââ;¬Â&b

Race an Issue? It's Already in the Cards

Politics – You knew it would come to this. With her back against the wall, Hillary Clinton, with allegedly progressive credentials, has decided that the time has come to play the race card. With Pennsylvania a must-win state, Hillary used subtle race-baiting to ensure her victory. In trying to get the votes of Pennsylvania's significant rural and blue-c

You've Come a Long Way Babe

Women – Somewhere in sports heaven, Babe Didrikson is smiling down on Danica Patrick. Long before Danica, long before Title IX, long before Billie Jean King, there was Babe Didrikson. She was the ultimate multi-sport athlete, delivering world class performances in basketball, baseball, tennis, track, squash, golf, swimming, diving, skating and even billi

Sarcoidosis Research: A Personal Plea

Health & Fitness – Sarcoidosis is a pain in the ass. Actually, the ass is just about the only place where sarcoidosis doesn't strike. What is sarcoidosis? According to the National Institute of Health: Sarcoidosis (sar"koi-do'sis) involves inflammation that produces tiny lumps of cells in various organs in your body. The lumps are called granulomas (

Move On, Hillary

Politics – Memo to Hillary: It's time to Move On. Though Hillary is likely to win in Pennsylvania, the margin will be so small as to not make any significant change in Obama's delegate lead. By withdrawing from the race on Wednesday (or even Tuesday night), Hillary can re-establish herself as a major figure in the Democratic Party and undo much of the dam

Blood and Treasure

Politics – The war in Iraq is a debacle. We have turned Iraq into an incubator for terrorists. We have emboldened Iran. To many, it looks like a war we can't win. Sure sounds like the rantings of a liberal pundit or a Democratic Party candidate, doesn't it? Only these are the views of the National Defense University

Iraq: Denial and Deception

Politics – Take a long, hard look at the headline to this story. If it doesn't sound familiar, it should. This was the title of the speech George W. Bush delivered on October 7, 2002. It was the speech Bush made outlining our reasons for going to war with Iraq.
