ACLU Sues to Get Eagle Feathers of Native American Inmate

Religion – A Native American prisoner who was denied the eagle feathers he needed to practice his religious rites will be represented by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in a suit against the Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins. Penitentiary officials confiscated the single feather held by North Arapaho tribesman Andrew John Yellowbear.

Fundamentalist to Mormon Church: We are Mormons, too

Religion – A coalition that represents fundamentalist Mormons has issued a statement objecting to the LDS Church's attempts to deny their claims as Mormons. The Principle Voices Coalition, said that members "strenuously object to any efforts to deprive us and others of the freedom to name and describe ourselves by terms of our own choosing."

Pope clears way for leprosy minister to become saint

Religion – Pope Benedict XVI approved a miracle attributed to the intercession of a 19th century Belgian priest who ministered to leprosy patients in Hawaii opening the way for him to be declared a saint. Benedict declared that a Honolulu woman's recovery from terminal lung cancer was the miracle needed for canonization of the Rev. Damien de Veuster.

California United Methodists make strong pro gay rights statements

Family plans lawsuit for waiting room death
