blainegarrett

One foot in the hustle and bustle of the wonderful Twin Cities and the other foot deeply planted in the woods of Northern Wisconsin. I suppose "urban lumberjack" might be the appropriate term. I am a recent Computer Science and Art graduate from The University of Minnesota. By day I am a web developer for this here site, and by night I am the Executive Director of TC based Adamantine Arts as well as an aspiring artist, musician, and experimental cook. I am working on being involved more in the community here, so please consider me to be just another member. I usually am interested in art, music, politics, and humor stories. Yup, so that is me in a nutshell. Word.

Because Now it Really Hurts! - Anti-Smoking Blog

Do-It-Yourself – I want to quit for my health. I have no pulse in my legs and my doctor says I'm going to need surgery. But he won't even consider operating until I quit smoking. Besides this, I have had throat polyps removed and all of my doctors say I have to stop smoking.

'Futurama' Is Back! Grab a Can of Slurm and Settle In

Television – Set in the year 3000, Futurama's interstellar sci-fi future isn't a shiny utopia like The Jetsons or a dark dystopia like Blade Runner. It's a time that seems wonderful or awful depending on how you look at it -- just like the present.

Google as a Password Cracker?

Gadgets & Tech – While doing forensics, I thought it would be interesting to find out the account password. Wordpress stores raw MD5 hashes in the user database (despite my recommendation to use salting). As with any respectable hash function, it is believed to be computationally infeasible to discover the input of MD5 from an output.

Suicide Bombing Makes Sick Sense in 'Halo 3'

Video Games – "A lot of teenage kids out there play dozens of hours of multiplayer Halo a week. They thus become insanely good at the game: They can kill me with a single head shot from halfway across a map. I can't do those things. So after a few weeks of this ritual humiliation, I got sick of it. And I devised a simple technique for revenge..." [via
