Digital Converter Coupon Program Set to Begin

Gadgets & Tech – February 17, 2009, is the last day that broadcasters will transmit analog signals. Only those receiving signals over-the-air (OTA) whose TVs don't already have a digital tuner will need converter boxes. At the same time, the government is running a coupon program to defray most of the cost of these boxes, which is set to begin Jan. 1, 2008.

Gadgets & Tech – Their universities will score millions of $$$ as they play in this season's bowl games, but the players, who we know (!) of course have no salaries, will score ... perhaps not big, but at least something with gift packs containing - in many cases - a lot of tech.

Gadgets & Tech – Nearly a year after Axiotron announced the ModBook at Macworld in 2007, it has shipped. The ModBook is an aftermarket modification to a standard MacBook (hence the name). If you want a tablet PC, it's really nicely set up, with a case built from aircraft-grade magnesium alloy. The top shell also gets chrome plating over nickel and copper layers.

Gadgets & Tech – If you want High Definition Audio (HDA) in Windows XP SP1 or SP2, you have to add it, with KB888111. Hopes were that Windows XP SP3 would support HDA by default, but testers have determined that the Release Candidate (RC) version neither supports it by default, nor does it support the above linked driver that adds that feature.
