Gadgets & Tech – February 17, 2009, is the last day that broadcasters will transmit analog signals. Only those receiving signals over-the-air (OTA) whose TVs don't already have a digital tuner will need converter boxes. At the same time, the government is running a coupon program to defray most of the cost of these boxes, which is set to begin Jan. 1, 2008.

Gadgets & Tech – Their universities will score millions of $$$ as they play in this season's bowl games, but the players, who we know (!) of course have no salaries, will score ... perhaps not big, but at least something with gift packs containing - in many cases - a lot of tech.

Gadgets & Tech – No press release yet, but with CES upcoming companies are "slipping out" details on CES-specific pages on their websites. Sony is no different, and it looks like, according to their site, that Skype is finally coming to the PSP.

Gadgets & Tech – Nearly a year after Axiotron announced the ModBook at Macworld in 2007, it has shipped. The ModBook is an aftermarket modification to a standard MacBook (hence the name). If you want a tablet PC, it's really nicely set up, with a case built from aircraft-grade magnesium alloy. The top shell also gets chrome plating over nickel and copper layers.

Gadgets & Tech – You'll recall the issues Mac QuickBooks owners had in mid-December, when a bug could cause QuickBooks 2006 owners to lose their Desktop folder when updating the product. Intuit believed they had fixed the issue with a patch issued on Dec. 29th, but it appears they missed one little thing.

Music – You might think, if you didn't work in the music business, that famous artists stand to make mad cash from popular albums on iTunes and other digital storefronts. Sadly, that's not the case, and Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has spent the last week calling out the labels for it.

Gadgets & Tech – Did you, as many probably did, download and install Microsoft Office SP3 when it was released last year? Some are now discovering that they can no longer use certain older file versions, of both Office and competing office products. There are ways to restore access, but it's not easy.

Gadgets & Tech – If you want High Definition Audio (HDA) in Windows XP SP1 or SP2, you have to add it, with KB888111. Hopes were that Windows XP SP3 would support HDA by default, but testers have determined that the Release Candidate (RC) version neither supports it by default, nor does it support the above linked driver that adds that feature.
